Palmingo – Sri Lankan Sign Language Gaming Application

Palmingo is an interactive mobile gaming application designed to teach *Sri Lankan Sign Language (SSL)* to children, especially those who are deaf or hard of hearing. It aims to bridge the communication gap by offering an engaging, gamified platform where children can learn SSL in a fun and accessible way. For children with hearing disabilities, Palmingo is more than just a game—it’s a gateway to communication, education, and self-expression. Through structured levels, challenges, and real-time gesture recognition, the app empowers users to practice signs, gain confidence, and receive feedback, which is crucial for mastering sign language.

Palmingo also serves a larger societal purpose. It raises awareness about the deaf community and promotes inclusivity by encouraging peers, parents, and educators to learn SSL alongside children. In doing so, it helps create a more empathetic and connected society where language barriers are reduced and equal opportunities in education and social participation are fostered.

As a team, we collaborated across disciplines—from design and animation to coding, testing, and research. We used tools like Unity, MediaPipe, and Blender to bring the idea to life, while engaging with experts and the deaf community for authentic feedback. Despite challenges, we stayed committed to our vision. Through teamwork, dedication, and innovation, we developed Palmingo not just as a technical project, but as a heartfelt contribution toward inclusivity and empowerment for children and the society they belong to.

InsightHive – A Multimodal Engagement Analysis Tool for E – Commerce SMEs

This is an application which will play a crucial role in improving the business strategies of
small to larger scaled businesses. Our system mainly focuses on helping the business to get
a clearer understanding of their customer base and increasing the business growth through
several components. Our system identifies separate segments of customers from specific
characteristics, predicting how much the customer will engage with their strategies,
sentiments of their customer base from different aspects and a fully-fledged product
recommendation system.

Small and medium scale businesses form the backbone to world’s economy; a situation
that fell apart when small businesses ran into hardships attaining target audience, reduce
visibility, and reduced sales between 2019 and 2020. The chief problem is that you don’t
have the capability to pinpoint the customer groups, understand the behavior and translate
the data into the marketing approach. To tackle this problem, in the proposed solution, it
analyses purchasing patterns, segments the customers, predicts customer engagement,
performs sentiment analysis and comes up with the personalized recommendation. The aim
of this approach is to improve the product reach and better customer targeting in order for
the businesses to meet the market demands, improve sales, and achieve sustainable growth.

TrueMortem

TrueMortem is an AI-driven cause-of-death prediction and analysis system focused on identifying whether a person’s death was due to heart-related conditions. The project was developed in response to the growing need for data-driven support tools in forensic pathology, particularly in Sri Lanka, where standardized digital postmortem analysis is lacking. TrueMortem utilizes two distinct models trained on different data sources: a structured postmortem dataset manually curated from Kurunegala General Hospital, and a verbal autopsy dataset obtained from the PHMRC Gold Standard VA database.

The postmortem model processes medical findings such as internal organ damage, external injuries, and demographics using machine learning algorithms. After experimenting with various models, Random Forest was selected for its superior performance, interpretability, and ability to handle missing data. The verbal autopsy model, designed to work with questionnaire-based data, uses an ensemble of Random Forest, SVM and LightGBM for improved accuracy.

The system features a React-based frontend, a FastAPI backend, and a RASA-powered chatbot integrated with an LLM to answer user queries. An interactive dashboard presents prediction results, confidence scores, and feature importance using SHAP values for transparency.

TrueMortem ensures data security, complies with ethical standards, and addresses legal requirements for sensitive medical data. While currently focused on heart-related deaths, the system is modular and scalable, paving the way for future expansion to other causes of death. It stands as Sri Lanka’s first AI-powered mortality analysis tool, supporting forensic experts and public health officials in making informed, evidence-based decisions.
