EduGraphAI: Using LLMs for Automated Construction of Pedagogy aware Educational Knowledge Graphs

“This project explores the use of Large Language Models (LLMs) to automate the construction of pedagogy-aware Educational Knowledge Graphs (EduKGs), addressing the challenges of manual development. While LLMs support self-guided learning, their effectiveness depends on access to structured, syllabus-aligned educational data. Educational Knowledge Graphs offer this structure, but incorporating pedagogical metadata such as learning outcomes and learner states remains a complex and underexplored task.

To overcome this, the project presents a hybrid framework that combines ontological modeling with LLM-driven automation. The framework enables the generation of EduKGs that capture both educational content and pedagogical context. A data pipeline is established to allow natural language querying through Graph Retrieval Augmented Generation (GraphRAG), where the LLM interacts with the EduKG to retrieve and generate responses. The system also integrates learner-specific data into the EduKG to support personalized learning experiences and provide better visibility into alignment with learning goals.

The proposed system, EduGraphAI, was evaluated through both qualitative and quantitative methods. Expert interviews assessed the system’s relevance, design accuracy, and adaptability in educational settings. Quantitative evaluation benchmarked the extraction of Learning Outcomes and Concepts against a gold standard dataset using Precision, Recall, and F1 Score. Learning Outcome extraction achieved an F1 Score of 82.35 percent. Concept extraction reached 80.00 percent Precision, 87.50 percent Recall, and an F1 Score of 83.58 percent. These results demonstrate the system’s effectiveness in automating the creation of educational knowledge graphs while maintaining pedagogical integrity.”

Spark Voyage is an interactive, AI-powered educational platform tailored to support preschool children (ages 3–5) with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). The solution addresses attention-related challenges through gamified learning, personalized guidance, and real-time insights for caregivers. At its core is an immersive mobile adventure game where children are guided by “Spark,” an AI-driven genie who adapts instructions, encouragement, and emotional feedback based on the child’s interaction and focus levels.

Designed to foster cognitive skills such as attention, memory, and early literacy, the platform uses storytelling, puzzles, and adaptive mini-games to maintain engagement and promote meaningful learning outcomes. These activities are grounded in child development research and incorporate culturally relevant themes to ensure accessibility, particularly in the Sri Lankan context.

An integrated parent dashboard provides visual progress reports, helping caregivers track cognitive and emotional development and understand engagement patterns. By utilizing Internet of Things (IoT) principles, Spark Voyage captures behavioral data from the learning environment to refine personalization and enhance child-caregiver communication.

KnowledgeNexus – Adaptive AI-Powered Learning Companion for Students

KnowledgeNexus is an intelligent learning platform that combines AI-powered personalization with collaborative learning features. The system processes various learning materials using Azure AI services and creates customized learning roadmaps through a RAG agent. It enables students to engage in interactive learning sessions. The platform leverages advanced ML processes to optimize learning paths and provide personalized study guides and advanced learning insights.

VisuaLit

VisuaLit is an AI-powered eBook reader that redefines traditional reading by merging visual storytelling, audio narration, and contextual learning into a single, immersive experience. Designed to support both avid readers and those who struggle with conventional reading methods—such as individuals with dyslexia, ADHD, or aphantasia—VisuaLit transforms passive reading into an interactive, sensory-rich journey.

The core features of VisuaLit include real-time character and scene visualizations using generative AI, natural-sounding audiobook generation, and an inline dictionary for contextual word understanding. LearnHeart is an innovative educational platform designed to bridge the gap between rural schools in Sri Lanka and educational contributors such as volunteers and organizations. The platform was created in response to the growing disparities in access to quality education across different regions of the country. By aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education), LearnHeart promotes inclusive and equitable learning opportunities for all.

The core functionality of LearnHeart enables schools, particularly in underserved areas, to submit seminar requests based on their subject-specific or skill-based needs. These requests are then visible to verified volunteers and organizations, who can respond by organizing and conducting seminars either in-person or virtually. The platform facilitates streamlined communication, efficient scheduling, and transparent tracking of educational activities.

LearnHeart is built using the MERN stack and LangChain, offering a modern and responsive user experience. ChronoTix is an intelligent timetable management system designed to simplify and automate the scheduling process in universities. Instead of relying on manual methods, which are often time-consuming and prone to conflicts, ChronoTix uses a smart algorithm to generate efficient, clash-free timetables for lectures, labs, and exams. The goal is to help students, academic staff and administrators save time, reduce errors, and ensure that resources like lecturers, classrooms, and students’ availability are used in the best possible way.

Built with a modern tech stack, the backend runs on Python using the Flask framework, while the frontend is developed with React for a smooth and user-friendly experience. Data is stored in MongoDB, allowing for flexible and efficient handling of academic information. ChronoTix supports different user roles—admins, lecturers, and students—each with their own dashboard and tools to manage or view timetables. It also includes features like room booking, personalised views, filtering options, and real-time updates.

One of the standout aspects of ChronoTix is its ability to adjust to different university needs. Users can set their own preferences for teaching hours, semester dates, and break times. By automating these tasks and resolving conflicts intelligently, ChronoTix takes the pressure off staff and gives students more reliable schedules. With its clean design and smart functionality, ChronoTix is a practical solution that improves how academic schedules are created and managed.

Palmingo – Sri Lankan Sign Language Gaming Application

Palmingo is an interactive mobile gaming application designed to teach *Sri Lankan Sign Language (SSL)* to children, especially those who are deaf or hard of hearing. It aims to bridge the communication gap by offering an engaging, gamified platform where children can learn SSL in a fun and accessible way. For children with hearing disabilities, Palmingo is more than just a game—it’s a gateway to communication, education, and self-expression. Through structured levels, challenges, and real-time gesture recognition, the app empowers users to practice signs, gain confidence, and receive feedback, which is crucial for mastering sign language.

Palmingo also serves a larger societal purpose. It raises awareness about the deaf community and promotes inclusivity by encouraging peers, parents, and educators to learn SSL alongside children. In doing so, it helps create a more empathetic and connected society where language barriers are reduced and equal opportunities in education and social participation are fostered.

As a team, we collaborated across disciplines—from design and animation to coding, testing, and research. We used tools like Unity, MediaPipe, and Blender to bring the idea to life, while engaging with experts and the deaf community for authentic feedback. Despite challenges, we stayed committed to our vision. Through teamwork, dedication, and innovation, we developed Palmingo not just as a technical project, but as a heartfelt contribution toward inclusivity and empowerment for children and the society they belong to.

Lexi is an AI-powered assistive learning platform designed specifically for individuals with dyslexia. It features adaptive dyslexia detection, gamified learning, text-to-speech, real-time pronunciation feedback, and a dyslexia-friendly UI. By integrating AI, cloud technologies, and accessibility principles, Lexi offers a personalized, inclusive, and scalable digital learning experience.
